Position Overview The Product Engineering Supervisor functions as the technical and program manager/mentor for product engineers working on new product development, manufacturing, and continuous improvement activities in the plant. Significant involvement in manufacturing operations and frequent interaction with diverse cross functional teams are core aspects of the position. Frequent interactions with customers is also required. The Product Engineering Supervisor must successfully oversee the technical aspects of development, commercialization, and continuous improvement for toll manufacturing products.
.Position Responsibilities: The primary responsibility of the Product Engineering Supervisor will be to oversee the work of the Product Engineers responsible for the development, commercialization, manufacturing, and continuous improvement of toll manufactured products. Consequently, the Product Engineering Supervisor must be competent in the same skills as the Product Engineer; these include:
-Design and execution of statistically designed experiments and modification of manufacturing processes based on the analysis of the results.
-Learn/Understand existing/new products within the White City manufacturing processes in mixing, coating, testing and finishing operations.
-Fulfill documentation requirements associated with the manufacture of assigned products. These include documents that define the process used to make the product, corrective action guidelines, quality test requirements, revisions to the process based on special cause needs and process improvements, regulatory requirements, change management, product scale up gate review requirements, etc.
-Develop product quality standards for the manufacturing processes that will be used to determine product acceptance.
-Lead efforts to address product populations that are made outside of the standard process conditions and/or do not meet the standard quality requirements. This may include identifying the population, statistically characterizing the defect, performing experimentation to learn root cause, implementing countermeasures to ensure the incident is not repeated, developing special test requirements to determine acceptance, gaining approval from appropriate parties to make final disposition, etc.
-Develop and implement finishing plans to meet experimental test requirements and timelines.
-Participate in and/or lead root cause analysis, process improvement workshops, and Kaizen events to reduce waste and improve quality, productivity and safety of assigned products. Act as project manager to facilitate implementation of the improvements identified during the events.
-Troubleshoot product issues and provide direction to operations for how to move forward with production. This may include implementing special testing, special run rules or escalation processes or the decision to shut down production until further understanding can be gained.
-Lead scale-up efforts for new products or product revisions. This includes direct responsibility for planning and execution for all phases of scale up from initial feasibility to standardized production.
-Build and maintain customer relationships through direct communication involving planning/scheduling, process specifics, product quality and understanding, improvement projects, production reports, process capability, waste, machine utilization, issues, etc.
-Drive assigned projects to completion.
-Prepare and deliver presentations to management, customers and operations when appropriate for various projects.
